국제건축도시현장워크숍 International field workshop: Learning from indian cities 운영.
Retired from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication since September 2016, I continue a practice of writing and drawing, initiated some thirty years ago. My frequent travels, especially in Asia, allowed me to maintain and develop these experiences. As an architect and former professor of the French National Schools of Architecture, I perform now, as an expert of 'Town and Pedagogy' and, I produce, from the materials collected during stays in cities and territories undergoing strong changes, the situation's elements useful for the production / transformation of architectural and urban spaces.
Expertise missions for architecture education institutions, since September 2016
Since September 2016, several education institutions have invited me to share my professional experiences. The School of Architecture of Paris La Villette ENSAPLV, asks me to ensure the continuity of the partnerships set up during my period of activity. Several stays in Adana, Turkey, or India (Varanasi, Navi Mumbai) will be made from November 2016 to February 2019.
The National Schools of Architecture of Paris (La Villette and Val de Seine - ENSAPLV and ENSAPVS), asked me to participate in many juries, including those for master's degree in architecture, State Diploma.
I have proposed to the College of Architecture of Navi Mumbai, India (BVCOA), the setting up of an annual 'City and Video' workshop started in Benares in 2018, which shapes in Navi Mumbai in 2019 and in Hampi in 2020 with Celia Lebarbey. To join the BVCOA's aim to publish books in a new collection called Learning from Indian Cities, I have written different articles from the academic experiences of Udaipur, Benares and Navi Mumbai. During my annual stays in Mumbai, I engage myself in the life of the College of Architecture through conferences, debates, juries, ceremonies or festivals organized by the institution.
I also collaborate with Tei-Youngsoon Choi architect, on the recovery of the Indo-Korean academic partnership between the Faculties of Navi Mumbai and Namseoul. In this context, I helped to organize the international field workshop 'Empty Houses' or the Transformations of the Old Quarter of Manho, which was held in Mokpo, in November 2019. The same year, Namseoul University asked me for a conference about the field works which I called: Nomadic Workshops.
Other invitations, experiences since 2016
Invited to Tirana in Albania, in July 2017 by an architectural students syndicate, to debate about the future of the Communist City. Following this stay, I produced several articles guided by a revival of a Marxist reading of the spaces. Texts diffused, but not published today.
He takes part in the quarterly 'Conditions d'Humanité', (Humanity's Conditions), meetings, which are held at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in Paris. This is an extension of the "Critical and Comparative Epistemology" seminar organized by ATK since 1998. Discussions focused on post-capitalist gatherings, the Yellow Vests in France, the containment ... from Dec. 2018 to Sep 2020.
Invited as a witness in 2021, by the research laboratory of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Strasbourg ENSAS, which called 'Architecture, Urban Morphology and Project' (AMUP) to debate about the origins of the Urban-Project, a theme and a practice in which he has been deeply involved over the years 1980.
Political orientations: Cities and Territories, in a complex situation?
Today I consider my continuous production of notes and field drawings elaborated during the various stays outside France, as a Narrative, the sustained question is the Architectural and Urban Project and the Informality.
Many surveyed territories are in an abnormal situation. They are undergoing deep changes or are frozen in the expectation of a renewal. For examples, the situation of Belfast in Great Britain, the situation of the Xinjiang region or Tibet in West China. The territories of the Indian Himalayas, Laddak, Sikkim, or Bhutan, all these know urban dynamics, where a population, a culture, a civilization is strongly forgotten or strategically destroy.
Let us also mention the cities of Fukushima, and Hiroshima in Japan, where the nuclear unsaid, the opacity of urban decisions let the population without future. Athens in Greece, was subjected to the economic policy of European recession.
During my last stay in Seoul in 2019, I have observed the demolition of the central sector of Sewoon Hall Market due to the industrial and economic changes in progress. No public debate allows the metal hand workers to explain their situation.
In Paris, in 2020/21, the containment measures against the Covid-19, caused the closure of bistros and restaurants, theaters, concert halls, museums. Who anticipate the transformation of public space at work?
